Gabe and Rachel’s Big Social October 2021 - Walnut Pastry (Hup Toh Soh) Bake-Along

We are hosting a Big Social event because we believe access to healthy food on a daily basis should be accessible to everyone. It is a foundation to good physical and mental health.

The donations from this fundraiser will be used to help people in low-income communities across Canada access healthy food with dignity, and fund programs that promote food skills, connection and advocacy.

This year for our Big Social event, we will be hosting a bake-along to make a traditional Chinese pastry - Hup Toh Soh 桃酥 (walnut cookie). It is a treat that is nostalgic to both of us, and our families would buy it often from Chinese bakeries. Throughout the pandemic, we have been especially curious to learn to make more of the foods from our childhood, and we want to bake this Hup Toh Soh together for this event.

With your donations, you will receive a recipe card designed by us, which will have a back story about Hup Toh Soh, as well as the recipe. You are also invited to a virtual bake-along via Zoom on Sunday, October 24 (time and details provided via email).

Your donation will support Community Food Centres Canada and 13 partner Community Food Centres across Canada to:

  • Provide good food in low income communities
  • Virtual nutrition + cooking programs for kids and adults
  • Support community members to take take action on the issues that affect their lives
